One of my favorite children's authors of Elisabeth's time is Kevin Henkes . His stories are delightful, entertaining and teach a lesson. One of my all time favorites is Chrysanthemum . An enchanting young mouse who loves her name until she goes to school and is teased by the kids in her class. It takes Mrs. Twinkle, described by the class as an indescribable wonder, to turn them around. It has some hidden laughs for parents. We have alot of his other books too. And they are all equally charming. I grew up with Golden Books, Dr. Seuss and Sesame Street. They were good, don't get me wrong. But they don't have the cool stories or humor for parents as found today.
Olivia by Ian Falconer is a bright and very energetic (hmmmm.....she reminds me of someone) pig who has lots of adventures. She has four books: Olivia, Olivia and the Missing Toy, Olivia Forms a Band and Olivia Saves the Circus. Sometimes her stories are true. Well, pretty all true. Close enough. She has big dreams also. Like being a ballerina, circus performer or Supreme Court Justice (I know it's Elisabeth!!)
These books always make me laugh. This is another reason why I wanted to have kids. So I can read books like these and color and build cool things with Legos and no one will look at me weird. (They must look at me weird for other reasons.)
